Chaos Communication Camp 2007 - Day -1 (Before)
Aug 13th, 2007 by Kevin Holler
We woke up around 8, got ready and packed our bags for the event.. So we headed towards the train station here in Hamburg and bought our tickets. We had an hour left so we went for some coffee. I thought I’d have a quick glance over the tickets and realized we had just booked and realized we got the wrong times, which didn’t bother us too much. We got on the train and headed for Berlin. We saw a sign ‘Berlin’ at this train stop so we decided to get off without thinking about wether it was the main station or not. Next thing we noticed nobody else geting off and the doors closed. We ran back towards one of the staff and asked if this was the main station. She looked at us in an odd german way as if to say ‘No’. So we got on feeling a little stupid
Eventually we arrived about 9:30 and met up with s25 at the train station. So we waited at the platform for the next train to Eberswalde. There we noticed some other people going to the Camp. We sat there for a while and eventually the train arrived. Just before we got on the train a guy asked me if we were going to the camp. We got talking to him and he seemed like a very friendly guy so we all stuck together and got talked more on the train. He showed us his lock picking set which caught everyones interest. About 15 minutes later we arrived. Outside there was already a taxi waiting for us, organized by CCC. Finally we got there. The weather was scorching hot and a big difference for those of us coming from Ireland.
After we got our gear out of the taxi we had a look around to see all of the tents people were building up. The area looked quite interesting as it was in an old Military Airport owned by the Russians years ago. So we looked up and saw a bunker, so randomly one of us says “lets camp up there!!”. So we climbed up along the side of it and decided to camp up there. The view from the whole camp was amazing. The guy we met on the train (zarkas) or something, i forget how it is spelled decided to stick with us and setup camp beside us. So we began setting up Irish Pirate Village. A small village with little offer aside from ‘craic’ aka (fun in irish slang) as stated on the wiki.

we had camp setup, we decided to head to Lidl, and do some shopping for beer and food. After we realised how long the walk there was, we had even more fun thinking about the walk back with all the beer etc. Luckily half way back, a guy from the camp pulled up in a car and offered us a lift. So we put s25 in the car with all the goodies and myself and Colin decided to walk the way back. Once we got back, and were stocked up and ready to go. The first day was quite interesting, as we had a lot of people coming up and saying hi. One of the very interesting guys we met was Trickster who shared some rather funny stories with us and great ideas. After we all sat around and had a few beers, we decided to head to tricksters tent as we had no power source up at the bunker just yet. So we chilled out at their camp for a while.
Then we found a table and some chairs which which we brought up to our camp, along with a power source. So we sat outside that night and listened to some music as we were securing our laptops. Although we didn’t stay up for long as we were tired so we went to bed after the long trip.
