Chaos Communication Camp - Day 1
Aug 15th, 2007 by Kevin Holler
The first day we woke up, it was like 30 degrees and we were melting. It was too hot to go back to sleep, but also too hot to even move. Eventually we managed to get up and we ate some of the crap we got from Lidl. Half of the beer had gone warm because we left it in the sun
So we all got ready and headed down towards bunker ‘bar’. Your probably wondering why it was called bar. Well the two conference bunkers we’re named ‘foo’ & ‘bar’. If you know a little bit about coding then you’ll understand. If not, its a simple programming term used for testing most of the time. So the opening talk began and they welcomed everyone and made a few announcements. One that really stood out to us was that nobody was allowed up the side of the bunkers. From there on we knew it was only a matter of time before we got a visit from security.
After that we explored a little and then headed back to the talk “Arguments on Surveillance”, where we nearly fell asleep due to the heat and how tired we were. So we decided to head up towards the Hack Center and see what was going on there. As we walked in the place was really full and there was media around talking to people and filming various things. We came across this stand where this guy (i forget his name) was doing a workshop on these wacky glasses which would mess with your brain waves and make you see colours and shapes as if you were on drugs or something. So we decided to give it a go. To be honest it freaked the shit out of me.. And for like 3 days after it i felt like my sunglasses were still on my head (don’t ask).
We headed down towards the camping area again and decided to go buy the event tags before they came around checking (which they never did). So we got some food and headed back towards our camp. A friend of ours who was camping with us had a DECT phone so we heard all the transmitting conversations in the area so as soon as we heard them talking about the people on the bunker (us) we were all listening. About 5 minutes later security arrived and informed us we had about an hour to move everything. So we began taking down our stuff but s25 was still at the Hack center building those wacky glasses at the workshop. So we decided to leave him there for a while. Eventually we tried to phone him with no luck so Colin headed up to get him. He decided to stay there, so we continued to move our camp down. His tent remained on the hill that night.
So we sat down, had a few beers and chatted for a few hours.

well i see we all had a very good time at the camp… hopefully we really are all coming to Berlin for a Congress:) to get some more knowloedge and some more or to say a lot more fun :))) say hello to your crew
have fun got to go
