The past, the present and what he hold onto.

As we move on through life, we, as humans hold on to various things we like or see as something we once cherished. But as we go over the years, we accumulate more and more. We come to a stage where we cannot find things anymore because they are lost amongst the hundreds of other items we have kept.. All these things you have, which you are still aware of inside your brain. So i asked myself one day, why do i keep it all? To my surprise i couldn’t find a good enough reason. My mother claimed it was for sentimental value, which i don’t believe in so i was left with the choice of getting rid of it all. Removing values from the past and improve living in the present.
For me it has always been a great since i have adapted this method and i continue to do so to this day. I have moved house about 9 times now, and every time i do so i realize how much stuff i had kept.
Let me explain my method in a little more depth. The various items everyone holds onto from school books, old toys, games etc.. end up never being looked at or used again. They are stored. The same way they stay in your mind. By removing all of these things from my past, i have found it easier to focus on the present and future rather than wasting time on the past. This has helped me move house every time and deal with many things.
One e.g was when my 300GB hard drive corrupted. (which was nearly the end for me). I ended up losing roughly 25,000 songs and 150 movies. Music which i had been collecting for about 5 years, from the very first cd’s i bought. All gone in one go. But after i had lost it all, i had really i only ever listened to about 10% of that music and had watched all those movies already. I just help on to them for reason alone that i could say i had about 25,000 songs. Since all of that is gone, i certainly don’t feel like i lost it i don’t use it any more than i did when it was there.
I am quite sure that this wouldn’t work for everyone, many people rely on these things to comfort them and such but for me it was a help. And I’m sure there is something you too can find in yourself that you can tweak ![]()

I’m very glad that you wrote your deep thoughts out. I’m impressed actually. Not because you’re not capable of it, but because you’re doing it more and more often lately.
I agree, we do hold on to a lot. I think certain people hold on to things more than others, probably due to personality. Perhaps we hold on to certain things for those good memories of old times. They say that constantly getting rid of old items will make way for new things to come into your life, and it clears up the clutter leaving you feel like you have less emotional baggage and all.
At the end of the day, we all have our things that give us security or comfort and each person knows their own reasons for either getting rid of all the old items, or keeping them. Whatever they decide, hopefully they are content with it.

Very good explanation. I also feel that everyone has their own ways of dealing with the past. Thanks for the reply
